East / West Spiritual Exercises
Healing Emotions Qigong
Sifu Mike has been teaching the Healing Emotions or Healing Sound Qigong here in London since 1983. This is a Qigong practice that works with Body Postures, Hand Postures, Visualization and Sound to help clear negative emotional residue from the individual. Healing Sound Qigong is used by all types of people to assist with their Spiritual Journey. Also, this is a great supplement to anyone who is going through therapy just so long as they get approval from their therapist.
Below is a picture of Sifu Mike presenting the introduction part of the Healing Sound Qigong workshop.

Mindfulness Meditation
Below, we see Sifu Mike leading a Buddhist Mindfulness Meditation class. Michael teaches the original Buddhist form of Mindfulness, that stresses proper Ethics and Morals and not the Clinical Mindfulness that has become popular with the Medical Profession. The Buddhist version has all of the same meditational aspects as that of the Clinical version but also requires the practitioner to adhere to a moral and ethical lifestyle.

Chen and Yang Tai Chi
On the right, we see Master Mike leading a Chen Tai Chi class out in a local park. Chen Tai Chi is a very dynamic and yet also a very calm form of meditational exercise. Michael has been offering Chen and Yang class, for several decades now, in and around the London – St. Thomas area.
Sifu Mike’s Religious/Spiritual Affiliations
Though Sifu Mike was born into and raised within an Anglican/Presbyterian home, he became interested in Asian culture when he was only 4 years old. This interest grew and in 1962, when Mike was only 6 years old, he saw a Judo demonstration which intensified Mike’s interest in Asian culture. In 1964 a neighbour introduced Mike to Buddhism and then in 1968 Mike started formal study of Asian Martial Arts. |
|
He has since studied Ch’an Buddhism, Shingon Buddhism, Tendai Buddhism and Pureland Buddhism as well as Quanzhen Daoism and other forms of Daoism. Mike studied Qigong under numerous teachers both martial and spiritual.

Today Michael holds a dual ordination being both a Christian minister and a Buddhist priest as well as being a long time practitioner and teacher of Daoist Meditation & Qigong.
Revd. Mike was ordained as a first level Buddhist priest on September 9th, 2001 and a full level Buddhist priest on January 1st, 2007. Mike’s Christian ordination took place on October 22nd, 1995.
Dual ordinations are not common however, there are and have been, a small number of clergy, usually Catholic or Anglican, that have felt the call to do so.
Michael has worked with spiritual leaders from various religious traditions. Here are a few: |
The Reverend David Brazier of the Amida Trust Pureland Buddhist Association
Below is a picture of the Rev. Mike with the Rev. David Brazier. This picture was taken at Trinity United Church & Community Centre in London, Ontario. Rev. David had dropped by to speak on the “Afterlife in Buddhism” in which he gave a very positive message. There was a great turn out and all in attendance enjoyed the talk.

Here is Rev. Mike with the Reverend Caroline Brazier who came to Trinity United Church and Community Centre a year prior to that of Rev. David. She gave a talk on Engaged, Positive Buddhism. This talk was presented to the congregation of Trinity United Church.

Here is Rev. Mike with Rev. Paul Browning, the Pastor at Trinity United Church and Community Centre. The two of them oversaw the annual Animal Blessing. The animals at Trinity were doubly blessed having both Christian and Buddhist blessings bestowed upon them.
